There's Interviewing Customers No. 2

After going through my first round of interviews, I have decided that I am really liking my idea and opportunity! The people I interviewed the first time liked my concept, and gave me good incite on what potential customers would want.
Last time I randomly only interviewed women, and I think that turned out well. Since my store would be for women, they are my potential customers. I decided to only interview women for this second interview as well.
The first interview, I focused on very general questions about the shopping experience that moment want. This time, I focused more one "would you rather questions" that help me decide between two different routes or ideas.
I think that after conducting ten interviews, I have a better grasp for what customers want. I know that women prefer to shop in stores with a fun atmosphere, this means making my store a women's only store. I also know that price point is a big deal for this segment in the market.
After completing my interviews, I have a few tips:
        1. Write your questions down. If you write your questions down you will be less nervous, and       you will be able to focus on the person you're interviewing more, rather than yourself
        2. Don't walk up to people if they look like they are in a hurry. This doesn't work out well for you or them. They will often reject interviewing and therefore you will feel rejected. Reach out to people who look like they are waiting for someone or walking slowly.
        3. Give the person you are interviewing a mini elevator pitch. I felt like I got better answers when the person knew what my goal was and why I was asking them a random question.

  1. Caroline,
You had a lot of great insights and points in this post. I think that it is encouraging that you like your idea more, now that you have interviewed ten women. I think that it is a an interesting concept that you asked "would you rather" questions. I believe that this is a great technique to get answers on very detailed questions. Overall, I think that with "would you rather" questions, in this context, the why behind their answer is the most important part. Finally, I do not see a video. I don't know if it didn't upload, if my computer is not working, or if you did not take any videos. I would have liked to watch of a video of your interviews. Anyways, you can check out my second round of interviews at: http://uffarmer.blogspot.com/2016/02/interviewing-customers-no-2.html

  4. This is certainly an interesting idea for a company and you seemed to go about the interviews in a professional, informative manner, so I commend you for that. I could be wrong, but I only count four interviews lol, sorry for pointing that out. Also, just so you know, you can cut all the videos together pretty easily using a program like Windows Movie Maker.

  5. Hello, Caroline!

I liked that your interviews were short and to the point. All of their answers seemed like they were thought out (as opposed to the answers to my questions. They were somewhat random). However, I do wish you would've asked more than one question per video. It was a little bit difficult to figure out what specific opportunity you were trying to access. Nicely done!

I actually did not record a second round of interviews, but if you want to check out the rest of my blog you can! nika-uf-ent3003.blogspot.com

  6. Hey Caroline,
I think that the would you rather questions are very thought provoking and can give a lot of insight into what you are trying to find out. Although, I think it might be easier, when you have the opportunity, to sit or stand with the people you are trying to interview, so that they don't feel as nervous so you can get more genuine answers. Also, I don't know if these are the whole interviews or not but a few more questions that are open ended can give you a wealth of information.
